Carding Angora

Angora, especially for newbies, can be difficult to spin because it is slippery. I learned to spin with German Angora because I had two big Germans from Windsor Farms who produced 4-5 pounds per year and I really couldn't afford to mill it. My first attempts at carding were with big sheep handcarders that left it all full of neps. Ultimately I learned to make small roving or rolags with dog slicker brushes from Petco.

These are pictures of angora prepared that way and pre drafted or rolled into mini roving called punis.

I CAN spin from what as known as the cloud which is the fiber as it is clipped from the rabbits. You can take handfuls and just start spinning.

I prefer the carded angora though as it never ever fails to give a smooth even yarn.
